All of our guided trips are fly fishing only and catch and release.
PRIVATE WATER FLY FISHING TRIPS:
Beaver Creek Fly Shop offers private water fly fishing trips on the Doub's Mill property on the beautiful Beaver Creek. These trips offer exclusive fishing access to a historic property on this limestone spring creek. The stream meanders slowly through the upper portions of the property, offering wonderful dry fly opportunities to try and catch some very large fish, and then spills over 3 dams that once powered the grist mill. The fishing below the dams offers a totally different kind of fishing opportunity with large riffles, back eddies and a very large pool below the main dam called the "mill pond." The stream is full of a mix of wild brown trout and rainbows with a few small rainbows that end up here from the stocking programs in the put and take waters up stream or below the dams. The Doub's mill property has an additional rod fee on top of our guide rates which are listed at the bottom of the page.
PUBLIC WATER WALK AND WADE FLY FISHING TRIPS:
We offer trips on Beaver Creek, Big Hunting Creek, Little Hunting Creek and Owens Creek locally. We also offer trips to the Savage River in Garrett County on request. Please give us a call or shoot us an email and we can discuss what streams would best fit what you would like to do for the day. Almost all of the water we fish is for wild trout. The only exception to that would be lower Owens Creek. This stream is stocked but most of the fish do holdover through the summer and the stream is under catch and release regulations for the majority of the year. Beaver Creek is Maryland's largest limestone spring creek and the only one with public access. It holds the largest population of wild fish per hectare of water in the state and the fish grow extremely fast and large. There is always the chance to hook into something really big any day of the week. Big Hunting, Little Hunting and Owens creeks are freestone streams and in the case of Big Hunting, also a small tail-water. These streams flow through Catoctin Mountain Park and offer up some of the most beautiful water in the region. These streams contain high-gradient pocket water accompanied by long pools and runs and shaded by large hemlocks and hardwoods. These fish generally do not get as big as they would in a spring creek but every once in a while you can find one around 15" which is a true trophy for small mountain streams. Generally, trips on these streams should be booked for the fall and spring. Summer fishing gets tough with low water conditions. Beaver Creek trips are available any time of year. Prices are at the bottom of the page.
FLOAT FISHING FOR SMALLMOUTH BASS AND WARM WATER SPECIES:
Beaver Creek Fly Shop is now offering float trips down the scenic upper Potomac River. Is there really a better way to spend the day then throwing big flies at the hardest fighting fish, pound for pound in freshwater, while you stand on the front of a drift boat? Not that I can think of! The Potomac River offers some of the best Smallmouth Bass fishing you'll find anywhere on the east coast and to top it off, the river is shallow enough to throw floating lines pretty much all the time. Floating down the Potomac is like taking a step back in time. The C and O canal runs the Maryland side of the river from Cumberland all the way down to D.C. This is preserved park land and is teaming with wild life. We commonly see bald eagles, geese, ducks, and deer swimming across the river. This is all just an added bonus to an excellent fishery. Also in this river besides the smallmouth bass are Northern Muskellunge (Musky,) Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Sunfish and Carp. All of these can be targeted on the fly and are commonly caught as a by catch while fishing for Smallies. We can also offer Musky fly fishing trips at certain times of the year. The Musky fishing is never easy, but the reward is like no other you'll find in freshwater. We're talking about the fish of a lifetime! Captain Tom Martin will be your guide as you float down the "Nation's River" with us.
